Why This Campaign Matters

Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide – but it is also one of the most preventable and treatable when detected early.

Many people think it only affects older people or those who spend all day in the sun. The reality is that anyone can be at risk.

Early awareness and simple habits can dramatically reduce that risk.

This campaign exists to share a few important facts that could help protect you, your family, or someone you care about.

Key Facts About Skin Cancer

• Skin cancer can develop on ANY part of the body – not only areas exposed to the sun
• Early detection greatly increases successful treatment
• Sunburn at any age increases your future risk
• Using sunscreen daily can significantly reduce skin damage
• Regular self-checks help you notice changes early

Warning Signs to Look Out For

Use the ABCDE rule when checking moles or spots:

A – Asymmetry
One half doesn’t match the other.

B – Border
Edges are irregular, ragged, or blurred.

C – Colour
Uneven colour – different shades of brown, black, red, or white.

D – Diameter
Larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser).

E – Evolving
Any mole or mark that is changing in size, shape, or colour.

If you notice any of these signs, it’s important to get checked by a medical professional.
